"Aquel chico..."


- "Aquel chico..." - respondió entre lágrimas que abrían surcos de suciedad en sus mejillas simétricas, ya secas. Habló sin pensárselo ni una vez, como quién actúa por venganza. Pura. Después, sin ni siquiera asomarse al abismo de saber las consecuencias que le acarrearía en el futuro, sentenció con su índice cruzando todo el patio hasta dar con una silueta en la lejanía. Yo. La silueta. En la lejanía.


Con esa instantánea comienza la historia real, o no, de mi nickname. Así me escondo de la cantidad de suicidios sin éxito -y con él- que han generado mis relatos. Así pongo un supuesto dueño a amores no correspondidos que rompen corazones incipientes. No soy yo, es él, es "aquel chico...".

Cuando tenía 10 años me enteré, sin querer queriendo, que no existían los reyes magos. Pero eso, ahora, no viene a cuento. A los 14 años, ya con unas cuantas frustraciones personales al hombro (como la de no saberme superhéroe -ni siquiera héroe a secas- o como la de darme cuenta que las chicas y los caramelos no son comparables) sí que podía afirmar con toda seguridad que sabía tratar a la gente. Quién dice tratar, dice maltratar; un pequeño matiz nomás.

Tuve especial predilección por las chicas. Já, las chicas. Fui como un virus nuevo: te avisan por todos los medios posibles, te explican sus efectos, desarrollan sistemas de defensa rudimentarios, incluso lo ves venir desde muy lejos; pero ni con esas -ni con otras-. Arrasé con todo lo que se me ponía por delante, era como un niño que se divierte jugando con la mente de los demás, pero sin el como. Después de meses de práctica infundada, depuré la técnica y conseguí utilizar mis skills para lograr objetivos específicos.

Ya no me andaba con tonterías, hice creer a una desprotegida que era adoptado y que mis falsos padres me habían enseñado que practicar sexo era sentarse uno al lado del otro y mirarse durante largas horas. Pisó el palito. Se ofreció voluntaria creyendo hacerme ver la "verdad" de la vida y así perdí la virginidad. A su amiga le juré que la primera había abusado de mí -ni sé de qué forma, ni me importa- y que emprendería acciones legales contra ella. Fui un descarrilado ante sus ojos y de tal modo rompió toda relación con la abusadora. Vivió un par de meses conmigo en su afán de sacar su lado más maternal. Luego, entendió.

Una tras otra, crearon un sinfín de mentiras piadosas y de juegos mentales y psicológicos y de conducta y de moral y de tantas otras cosas que no sé pronunciar. Hasta tal punto que ya no sabía si jugaba con ellas o ya jugaba contra mí mismo.

Me olvidé de todo porque me creía el rey del mundo. Suele pasar. Inventaba un mundo paralelo, lo envolvía para regalo, lo dejaba en el buzón de mi próxima víctima y casi por arte de magia, lograba todos mis propósitos -imagínense la calidad de propósitos que se puede tener con 16,17 y 18 años- cuando ella abría el florido paquete.

Qué feliz fui. Qué hijo de puta fui.


Ahora 30 de Julio de 2009 -lo admito, tengo la manía de poner la fecha- tengo 19 años bien cumplidos. Por escribir esto, llego tarde al colegio para recoger a mi hermano. Con las prisas me sobresalto al ver que algo no va bien. Una profesora -que siempre me mira al llegar- está junto a mi hermano pequeño que gimotea. Ella intenta consolarle pero, por lo visto, faltó a aquella clase cuando todavía era universitaria, es igual.

Me acerco y ya conociendo al pequeñajo, le consulto: "¿Quién fue?" -con una cara de enfado postiza-.
Él, sin pensárselo ni una vez, como quién actúa por venganza, me dijo sacando a relucir su minúsculo pero desafiante dedo índice: "Aquel chico...".

Freeze.

No sé si acabó sufriendo él las consecuencias o las acabé sufriendo yo. De hecho, he muerto tanto al ver los ojos de la silueta del supuesto agresor de mi hermano -por verme reflejado en él- que realmente me llego a plantear seriamente si aquella tarde de recreo en el colegio -no la suya sino la mía- fui yo el agresor o el pobre chivato que señala en la lejanía.

Necesito ayuda, necesito que esto se sume al historial de "Aquel chico...", no al humano detrás de él.

No lo pongan en mi cuenta personal... me arruinan la vida.

Wear Sunscreen

whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.


I will dispense this advice NOW!

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth.

Oh, never mind.

You will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they've faded.

But trust me, in 20 years, you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now

how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked.

You are not as fat as you imagine.

Don't worry about the future.
Or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum.

The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind,

The kind that blindside you at 4 pm on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing every day that scares you.

Sing

Don't be reckless with other people's hearts.
Don't put up with people who are reckless with yours.

Floss

Don't waste your time on jealousy.
Sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind.

The race is long and, in the end, it's only with yourself.

Remember compliments you receive.

Forget the insults.

If you succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old love letters.

Throw away your old bank statements.

Stretch

Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your life.
The most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives.
Some of the most interesting 40-year-olds I know still don't.

Get plenty of calcium.

Be kind to your knees.

You'll miss them when they're gone.

Maybe you'll marry, maybe you won't.
Maybe you'll have children, maybe you won't.
Maybe you'll divorce at 40.

Maybe you'll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary.

Whatever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much,

or berate yourself either.

Your choices are half chance.

So are everybody else's.

Enjoy your body.
Use it every way you can.

Don't be afraid of it or of what other people think of it.

It's the greatest instrument you'll ever own.

Dance

Even if you have nowhere to do it but your living room.

Read the directions, even if you don't follow them.

Do not read beauty magazines.

They will only make you feel ugly.

Get to know your parents.

You never know when they'll be gone for good.

Be nice to your siblings.

They're your best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that friends come and go,

but with a precious few you should hold on.

Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle, because the older you get,

the more you need the people who knew you when you were young.

Live in "New York City" once, but leave before it makes you hard.

Live in "Northern California" once, but leave before it makes you soft.

Travel

Accept certain inalienable truths:
Prices will rise.

Politicians will philander.

You, too, will get old.

And when you do, you'll fantasize that when you were young,

prices were reasonable, politicians were noble, and children respected their elders.

Respect your elders.

Don't expect anyone else to support you.

Maybe you have a trust fund.

Maybe you'll have a wealthy spouse.

But you never know when either one might run out.

Don't mess too much with your hair or by the time you're 40 it will look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy,

but be patient with those who supply it.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.

Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal,

wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen.
